Auto Parts SEO That Sells the Part That Fits

Auto parts SEO for aftermarket and replacement parts stores: year-make-model pages, part-number search and product data that win buying searches on Google, Amazon and AI assistants. We deliver sales, not just rankings.

What Is Auto Parts SEO?

Auto parts SEO, or SEO for auto parts websites, is the work of getting an online parts store’s category, vehicle and product pages to rank for the searches that end in an order. Parts buyers search differently. Many start with fitment, meaning the year, make and model of the car, sometimes the engine or trim. Some type the part number stamped on the old part. Others type a symptom, like a grinding noise when turning.

The catalog sits behind every one. Fitment data decides which vehicle pages can exist. Suppliers often send it in ACES and PIES, the aftermarket’s standard formats for vehicle applications and product attributes. Product data feeds Google Shopping. Faceted navigation (the year-make-model selector and the filters around it) decides how many URLs Google has to crawl. Aftermarket parts SEO starts by getting those right.

Auto Parts SEO Problems We Fix

✓

Vehicle pages that exist only as filter results, with no copy and a templated title

✓

Thousands of year, make and model filter URLs indexed with the same products on each

✓

OEM and interchange part numbers buried in a spec tab or PDF that Google never reads

✓

Parts that show in Google Shopping for a vehicle search with no organic page behind them

✓

Amazon and the national chains taking the clicks on your best part searches

✓

Sales from ChatGPT and other AI assistants lumped into referral traffic, so nobody knows their worth

What Google Shows for a Fitment Search

In the three fitment searches we pulled, Google answered with year-specific store pages, Shopping units, forum threads and repair-cost estimators. We pulled live U.S. results on October 27, 2026 for “cv axle honda accord”, “wheel bearing toyota camry” and “brake pads ford f150”. None named a year. Three searches is a small sample, so treat this as a pattern to check.

Year Pages Ranked in All Three Searches

AutoZone and O’Reilly ranked with single-model-year pages, though nobody searched a year. Nine of their organic spots across the three searches were single-year pages, like a 2018 F-150 brake pad page. NAPA ranked once with a make-and-model page. For the Accord and Camry searches, half or more of the related searches Google suggested added a year. So we treat the make-and-model page as the hub. Here, the year pages did the ranking.

Stores Share the Page With Shopping, Amazon and Forums

All three showed Google Shopping product units, and Amazon ranked in at least two. Two or three of the eight organic spots on each went to forums, YouTube, cost estimators or a buying guide. The People Also Ask boxes asked about replacement cost, symptoms and part lifespan. A product grid answers none of that.

A Part Number Topped the Accord Results

A part number topped the Honda Accord results. The top two organic spots were OEM dealer parts pages, and the first carried the Honda part number in its title. Buyers search the worn part’s number. An aftermarket store can show it as the OEM number its part replaces.

How We Build Auto Parts Pages That Rank

We build from search demand and the parts you stock. Then we check what Google already shows.

Three Parts or No Page

Our three-product rule decides which vehicle pages get built. A make, model or year page earns an indexable URL only when people search for it and at least three parts you stock fit. Under three, it stays a filter. Every page that exists then has something to sell.

URLs follow how buyers type. Use the singular or plural form buyers use for each part. Seven of the eight related searches Google suggested for the F-150 query said “brake pads”.

Filters Stay Out of the Index Unless They Earn a Page

Faceted navigation needs a rule for which filter combinations Google may index. Year, make, model, position and brand filters multiply fast. Combinations that pass the three-product rule get a clean URL, copy and internal links. The rest stay out of the index through a noindex tag (an instruction not to index the page) or a canonical tag (a pointer to the main version). Search Console shows whether Google agrees.

Repair Guides That Point to the Part

Symptom and replacement-cost guides compete for the spots forums and estimators hold, then link to the part that fits. A guide to wheel bearing noise links to the wheel bearing page for each popular vehicle. We write them plainly.

Speed Work Depends on the Platform

Your platform decides how early speed work comes. In HTTP Archive’s 2025 Web Almanac, 35% of WooCommerce and 35% of Magento sites with Chrome field data passed all three Core Web Vitals (Google’s loading, responsiveness and layout-stability measures) on mobile. Shopify passed at 76%.

Amazon and AI Assistants Need Their Own Work

Parts buyers also search on Amazon and in AI assistants. Each needs its own work.

Amazon Competes for Parts Searches

Amazon competes with Google for product searches, and it ranked on Google itself in our parts searches. Per Google’s own economic expert in the federal court’s 2024 opinion in United States v. Google, a sample of Google’s top 25 non-navigational shopping queries drew 3.7 million queries a week on Amazon and 5.1 million on Google. The court still placed Amazon outside Google’s search market. Parts sold there need SEO too.

Machines read little of an Amazon listing. Live Amazon product pages we checked at the turn of September 2026 carried no structured data. The A+ “From the manufacturer” section was the only brand-written text a machine could read, and it lost its headings. So an A+ FAQ must restate the question, vehicle included, in each answer.

AI Referrals Get Tracked by Assistant

We track AI referrals one assistant at a time, because each cites different sources. The federal court’s 2025 remedies opinion in United States v. Google found commercial queries aren’t yet a common use for generative AI apps. That finding cites testimony from Google and Apple executives. The court expects it to change.

The assistants also disagree with each other. For the same product question, ChatGPT and Gemini shared only 5.4% of displayed source domains on average, in an audit by researchers at Maastricht, Utrecht and Zurich universities (2026). For an ecommerce client, we built a GA4 dashboard that splits visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot. Each ties to revenue.

How Our Auto Parts SEO Works

1

Audit

You get the vehicle, part-number and category searches you could win, plus the filter URLs and feed errors costing sales, ordered by revenue impact.

2

Strategy

Every buying search gets one page. We decide which vehicle pages to build, which filters stay unindexed, and which guides to write.

3

Execution

Category and vehicle pages get the copy, FAQs, schema and internal links Google needs to rank them. Repair guides and Merchant Center feeds follow.

4

Reporting

You see organic revenue apart from paid, AI revenue by assistant, and a dated before-and-after read for every change. Flat changes get reported as flat.

An Auto Parts Brand We’ve Worked With

Detroit Axle, an aftermarket auto parts retailer in Detroit, Michigan, is one of the ecommerce brands we’ve worked with.

Every figure on this page comes from a public source or a check we ran ourselves, and each carries its date. Third-party figures link to the source. Our founder’s own record is public too. In 2020 Colin Ma sold two of his own affiliate websites for six figures each, as he told Niche Pursuits (2021).

Auto Parts SEO FAQs

Should an auto parts store build a page for every year, make and model?

An auto parts store should build an indexable page only where people search for that vehicle and at least three parts you stock fit it. Everything else stays an unindexed filter. In the results we pulled, the chains ranked with single-year pages, so build down to the year where fitment data and stock allow.

Can a smaller parts store outrank AutoZone or Amazon?

A smaller parts store can outrank AutoZone or Amazon on some searches, though rarely the broadest ones. The openings are specific fitment searches, part-number searches, and cost and symptom questions store pages answer poorly. We pick searches where your catalog is the better answer. Then we track each one.

Should auto parts pages target part numbers?

Auto parts pages should target part numbers wherever buyers use one to confirm a match. Put the OEM number your part replaces and any interchange numbers in the page text and product data. In one search we pulled, the top organic result carried the Honda part number in its title. Never guess a number. A wrong one sells a part that won’t fit.

Do you work on WooCommerce and Shopify parts stores?

We work on WooCommerce and Shopify parts stores, and the first fix differs by platform. WooCommerce and Magento sites pass Google’s Core Web Vitals checks far less often than Shopify sites. Speed work comes earlier there. On every platform, fitment data, filter URLs and product feeds get the same audit.

How do you track sales from ChatGPT and other AI assistants?

We track sales from ChatGPT and other AI assistants in GA4, with each assistant split out and tied to transactions and revenue. We built that dashboard for an ecommerce client, covering ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot. AI Overviews can’t be separated this way. Those visits arrive as ordinary Google organic traffic.
